If you’re a music fan, nothing beats watching a great musician or band perform live. And from what I can tell, the live music scene in Auckland is in pretty good shape. In this post, I highlight some Auckland venues that have live music.
The Good Home
Located in Onegunga, Mount Eden and Birkenhead, The Good Home is an enthusiastic supporter of live music. And, I’m happy to say that, I get to play there from time to time. The acts tend to be duos playing a range of styles including acoustic, pop and rock.

Café One 2 One
Café One 2 One has been providing live music since 1992. The musicians include guitar virtuoso Nigel Gavin, and there is something happening every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. They also host an open mic night for young musos on the first Sunday of the month and a spoken-word open mic night every second Wednesday.

- Thursday: Acoustic gathering from 7 pm; no cover charge
- Friday: Jazz with Peter Wood from 8 pm; R18; koha jar for donations
- Saturday: A night with Mark Laurent and friends from 7 pm to 9 pm
- Last Sunday of the month: Young folks open mic from 3 pm to 5 pm; no cover charge; performers from 10 to 17 years of age
- Every second Wednesday: Spoken word open mic from 7.30 pm

With musicians performing seven days a week, Danny Doolan’s is the ultimate live-music venue. From Sunday to Thursday, they have solo singer/guitarists and on Friday and Saturday nights they have full bands. Music includes classics along with current tunes.

With live music on Thursday , Friday and Saturday nights, Orleans caters to aficionados of jazz and blues. Current performers include jazz singer Clo Chaperon and blues player JT with drummer Greg Tell.
